About the Invoice Handling Fee Calculator

A handling fee is any charge that is not the goods, the service or the carriage: packing, processing, a small-order surcharge, a card fee, an out-of-hours premium, a rush charge. They are legitimate and they are also the lines customers query most, because they look like padding unless they are named and explained.

This works the fee out as a flat amount, a percentage of the order, or a percentage with a floor and a ceiling — which is how most real fee schedules are written — and shows it as a share of the total so you can see when it stops being reasonable.

It also flags the legal problem. Card surcharging on consumer cards is banned outright in the UK and the EU, capped in several US states, and restricted in Australia to the actual cost of acceptance. A card fee added to a consumer invoice in the wrong jurisdiction is not a pricing decision, it is an unlawful charge, and the calculator says so rather than quietly adding it.
