Day rates, materials, retention and CIS deductions on one contractor invoice.
The Contractor Invoice Generator handles what a trade invoice carries and an ordinary one does not: day rates and materials on separate lines, mixed tax rates, retention, and a CIS or TDS deduction taken after tax so the net payable is shown correctly.
A contractor’s invoice carries things a normal one does not: labour at a day rate, materials at cost or with a markup, plant hire, a retention percentage held back until practical completion, and — in the UK construction industry — a CIS deduction taken off the labour element before payment.
The withholding field handles the deduction: set the label to CIS, TDS or whatever your scheme is called, set the rate, and it is subtracted after tax so the invoice shows the gross, the deduction and the net payable — which is exactly the breakdown a contractor’s accounts department and your own year-end both need.
The unit column is on by default so days, hours, metres and loads print beside the quantity, and the per-line tax option lets zero-rated materials sit beside standard-rated labour on a single document without breaking the totals.
Set the label and rate; it is subtracted after tax, where it belongs.
Different lines, and different tax rates if they need them.
As a labelled deduction with the percentage on the face of the invoice.
A tax note field for domestic reverse-charge construction wording.
Days, hours, metres and loads print beside the quantity.
Use the unit column for days, hours or quantities, and keep materials on their own lines.
Turn on per-line tax if materials and labour are rated differently, or use the reverse-charge note.
Set the withholding label to CIS or TDS and enter the rate. It comes off after tax.
Enter retention as a whole-invoice percentage discount, or as its own negative line.
PDF for the main contractor, CSV for your own records.
Show the gross labour and materials, the VAT, then the CIS deduction as a separate subtraction, then the net amount payable. Materials are not subject to the deduction, so keep them on their own lines.
For most UK construction services supplied to another VAT-registered contractor, the customer accounts for the VAT instead of you. Your invoice shows no VAT charged and carries a note saying the reverse charge applies. Use the tax note field for that wording.
As a clearly labelled deduction with the percentage shown, and a note saying when it is released. Some contracts require the retention to be invoiced separately at the end instead.
Yes, if your contract allows it. Put the marked-up figure in the unit price and say in the description that it is supply and fix, or list cost plus a separate handling line.
