What was received

A receipt confirms money arrived; an invoice asks for it. The field most receipt templates miss is the last one here — the balance still outstanding — and it is the field almost every later argument turns on.

About the Payment Receipt Generator

An invoice asks for money. A receipt confirms it arrived — and it is a different document with different fields. A receipt needs the amount received, the date it was received, the method, what it is being applied to, and whether anything is still outstanding.

That last field is the one most receipt templates miss and the one that prevents arguments. A customer paying £500 against a £1,200 invoice should get a receipt that says so on its face, rather than one that says £500 and leaves both sides to remember the rest.

This builder handles cash, card, bank transfer, cheque and mobile money, prints a RECEIPT title and a PAID stamp, and takes a reference for the transaction — the last four digits of a card, a transfer reference, a cheque number. It prints to A4 for a business customer or to an 80mm till roll for a counter, and for cash payments a signature line is available, because a cash receipt with nobody’s name on it is not much of a receipt.

Frequently asked questions

An invoice is a request for payment and creates a debt. A receipt is evidence that payment was made and discharges one. A sale paid immediately often produces both, or one document marked "paid".
