About the Invoice in SGD

GST in Singapore is 9%, having risen from 7% in two steps through 2023 and 2024, and a registered business must show its GST registration number on a tax invoice. Registration is compulsory above the turnover threshold and voluntary below it, and only a registered business may issue a tax invoice or charge GST at all.

The Unique Entity Number identifies the business itself and is what a customer’s procurement system will match on. It is also what PayNow uses: a payer can send money to a UEN rather than an account number, which is instant, free and increasingly the default for domestic B2B payments — so putting the UEN and a PayNow QR on the invoice removes a step for the payer.

Singapore also runs InvoiceNow, the national e-invoicing network built on Peppol, and larger customers and government bodies increasingly expect structured invoices through it rather than PDFs. The UBL export here is the format that network carries.
