About the MKV to MP4 Converter

MKV is the container of choice for high-quality video: it holds several audio tracks, subtitles, chapters and almost any codec. That flexibility is exactly why phones, smart TVs, consoles and editing software so often refuse it.

The conversion runs in your browser through ffmpeg.wasm — the real ffmpeg, compiled to WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded: a wedding video, a client recording or an unreleased track never leaves your machine. The engine is a one-off download of about 32 MB, after which your browser caches it and every later conversion starts immediately.

The first video and audio tracks are converted to H.264 and AAC in an MP4 with faststart metadata. Extra audio tracks, subtitles and chapters are left behind, because MP4 has nowhere to put them — the page says so rather than quietly dropping half your file. Choose the quality and speed, scale down, change the frame rate, trim, or remove the audio.
