About the Degrees to Radians Converter

Radians are the natural unit for angles in mathematics and programming: every trigonometric function in JavaScript, Python, C and Excel expects them, while people think in degrees. Converting is one multiplication, but getting an exact answer — 60° is π/3, not 1.047 — is what a maths class or a formula actually needs.

Type an angle in degrees, including degrees-minutes-seconds, and the converter gives the radians as a decimal and, whenever it exists, as an exact multiple of π. Switch direction to turn radians into degrees; you can type pi/3 or 3π/4 directly. Sine, cosine, tangent and milliradians are shown alongside, with a table of the common angles every student is expected to know.

Key features of the Degrees to Radians Converter

Exact π answers

60° comes back as π/3 as well as 1.0471975512, whenever an exact form exists.

Type π directly

Radians accept pi/3, 3π/4 or 2pi as well as decimals.

Working shown

The multiply-by-π-over-180 step is written out with your numbers.

Trig values

Sine, cosine and tangent are calculated, with tangent marked undefined at 90° and 270°.

How to use the Degrees to Radians Converter

  1. 1

    Enter the angle

Degrees as a decimal or in DMS form, such as 33° 15′ 30″.

  2. 2

    Pick the direction

Degrees to radians, or radians to degrees — radians accept pi/3 and 3π/4.

  3. 3

    Read the exact form

The answer shows the decimal and the multiple of π, plus the working.

  4. 4

    Check the trig values

Sine, cosine and tangent are shown, with a table of common angles below.

Frequently asked questions

Radians = degrees × π ÷ 180. For radians to degrees, multiply by 180 and divide by π.
