Converted on your device — the file is never uploaded
The GPX to KML Converter turns a GPS track into a Google Earth file: waypoints become placemarks, tracks and routes become coloured lines, and elevation is carried across.
Every GPS device and running app exports GPX: Garmin, Strava, Komoot, OsmAnd, a handheld unit from the glovebox. Google Earth and most of Google’s mapping tools want KML. The data is the same — points with a latitude, a longitude and usually an elevation — but the shape and even the coordinate order are different.
Drop the GPX here and get KML. Waypoints become placemarks keeping their name and description, routes and track segments become lines, and elevation is carried across so the path sits on the ground properly in Google Earth. You choose the line colour and width. The distance, the number of points and the total climb are worked out as it goes, so you can check the file is the one you meant before you download it.
All three are converted, keeping names and descriptions.
KML writes lon, lat, ele — the reverse of GPX — which is done for you.
Heights travel with every point, so the profile is right in Google Earth.
Choose the colour and width the track is drawn with.
Total distance and point count let you check the file before downloading.
From a watch, a handheld GPS or an app export.
How the track will be drawn on the map.
The point count and total distance confirm it is the right track.
Open it in Google Earth, or import it into My Maps.
Go to Google My Maps, create a map, and use Import on a layer. Google Earth opens a .kml file directly.
Yes. Each coordinate carries its elevation where the GPX had one, which is what lets Google Earth show the track’s profile.
A plain KML LineString has nowhere to put per-point times, so the track becomes a line rather than an animated path. The GPX keeps them if you need them later.
No. A GPS track shows where you live and run, so it is read and converted entirely in your browser.
