Read on your device — the book is never uploaded
The EPUB to Text Converter reads a book’s chapters in spine order, strips the markup, and hands back plain text with the title, author and reading time.
An EPUB is a zip of XHTML files with a manifest describing the order they are read in. That makes it a fine format for e-readers and a difficult one for anything else — searching a book, quoting from it, running it through a tool, or reading it on a device with no e-reader.
Drop the book here and its text comes out in reading order, taken from the spine rather than from whatever order the files happen to sit in. Chapter headings can be marked, the title and author placed at the top, and a single chapter picked out rather than the whole book. Word count and reading time come with it. It all happens in your browser, which matters when the EPUB is a manuscript rather than a published book.
Chapters come from the book’s spine, not the file order.
Every chapter is listed by its heading.
Title, author and language from the book itself.
Word count and an estimate for the whole text.
Unzipped in your browser — safe for a manuscript.

Chapters are listed in reading order.
Mark where each chapter starts, or run it together.
Plain .txt, named after the book.
Usually not. Shop-bought books carry DRM, which encrypts the text. Only DRM-free EPUBs — Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, most self-published files — can be read.
Yes. The order comes from the spine in the book’s own manifest, which is the order the book is meant to be read in, not the order the files are stored in.
Removed. Plain text keeps the words, the paragraphs and the chapter breaks.
No. It is unzipped and read in your browser, which is what makes it safe for an unpublished manuscript.
