About the CSV to Excel Converter

Opening a CSV in Excel is not the same as having an Excel file. Double-click one and Excel guesses: it turns 0044 into 44, reads 03/04 as a date in whichever order your region prefers, splits on the wrong character, and leaves you with a sheet of text that will not add up.

This builds a genuine workbook instead. The delimiter is detected, numbers become numbers, ISO dates become real Excel dates, and anything with a leading zero stays text so phone numbers, postcodes and invoice references survive. The header row is frozen with an autofilter, and column widths are set from the content so nothing shows as ####. Download as .xlsx, legacy .xls or OpenDocument .ods. The file is built in your browser, so the data never leaves your machine.

Key features of the CSV to Excel Converter

Leading zeros survive

Phone numbers, postcodes and reference codes stay text, so Excel cannot eat the zeros.

Real dates and numbers

ISO dates become Excel dates and numbers become numbers, so totals and sorting work.

Ready to use

The header row is frozen with an autofilter and columns are sized to their content.

Three formats

Modern .xlsx, legacy .xls, or OpenDocument .ods for LibreOffice.

Any delimiter in

Comma, semicolon, tab or pipe is detected, with proper handling of quoted fields.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. A value such as 0044 or 007 is written as text, so Excel cannot strip the zeros. That is the single most common thing lost when a CSV is opened directly.
