About the Ordinal Number Converter

Ordinal numbers say position rather than quantity — first, second, twenty-third — and their suffixes follow a rule with an awkward exception: 1, 2 and 3 take st, nd and rd, except when the number ends in 11, 12 or 13, which always take th. Get it wrong in a certificate, a leaderboard or a date and it shows.

Paste a list of numbers, one per line, and each becomes its ordinal: a short suffix such as 22nd, a superscript suffix such as 22ⁿᵈ for social posts, the full words twenty-second, grouped digits like 1,001st, or both together. Tick reverse to turn "21st" or "twenty-first" back into 21. Any size of whole number works.

Key features of the Ordinal Number Converter

Correct teen exception

Numbers ending in 11, 12 or 13 always take th, including 111th and 213th.

Five output styles

Suffix, superscript, words, grouped digits, or suffix and words together.

Superscript that pastes anywhere

Unicode ˢᵗ ⁿᵈ ʳᵈ ᵗʰ keeps its look in places without formatting.

Works in reverse

Turn 21st or twenty-first back into 21 for sorting and spreadsheets.

Any size

Very large whole numbers get the right suffix and ordinal words.

Because eleven, twelve and thirteen are said "eleventh", "twelfth" and "thirteenth". The th rule applies to any number ending in 11, 12 or 13, so 112th and 213th too.
