About the M4A to MP3 Converter

M4A is what an iPhone voice memo saves as, what Apple Music downloads are, and what plenty of audiobooks use. It is a good format. It is also the one that a car stereo from 2012, a cheap MP3 player, an office phone system or an old CMS will refuse to touch.

The conversion runs in your browser through ffmpeg.wasm — the real ffmpeg, compiled to WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded: a wedding video, a client recording or an unreleased track never leaves your machine. The engine is a one-off download of about 32 MB, after which your browser caches it and every later conversion starts immediately.

Choose the bitrate, resample, force mono for speech, trim a section or even out the loudness. Because M4A is already lossy, this is a re-encode and a little quality goes with it — staying at 192 kb/s or above keeps that inaudible for almost every listener, and the page says plainly when you are asking for more bitrate than the source holds.
