Invoice OCR reads scanned and photographed invoices into text entirely inside your browser, sharpening the image first, reporting a confidence figure for the page and for every line, in more than a hundred languages.
OCR services want your invoices on their servers. An invoice carries a bank account, a customer list, prices you do not publish and often a home address — it is close to the worst document to hand to a free web service whose business model you cannot see.
This runs the OCR engine inside your browser. The engine is about thirty megabytes and is fetched from a public CDN the first time you use it; after that the reading happens on your machine, and the image never goes anywhere. You can watch the network tab.
Drop a scan, a photo or a scanned PDF. The image is sharpened first — greyscale, a contrast stretch and a threshold, which roughly doubles accuracy on a phone photo, because the problem is almost always uneven lighting rather than resolution. You get the text, a confidence figure for the page and one for each line, so the lines worth checking are obvious. Over a hundred languages are available.
The engine is fetched once, then works offline.

The engine and the language data are around thirty megabytes and are fetched once, then cached by your browser. Later runs start immediately.
Scan at 300 dpi, keep the page straight, and avoid shadows. A flat, evenly lit photo beats a high-resolution one taken at an angle.
