Add or remove GST at any rate, with the net, tax and gross shown.
Gross (GST inclusive)
—
CGST and SGST split the rate evenly for intra-state supply in India. For inter-state supply the whole amount is IGST instead.
The GST Calculator shows the net price, the GST component and the gross price together, at any rate. The direction toggle is the important control: adding GST to a net figure and stripping GST out of a gross figure are different sums, not the same one reversed.

To add GST you multiply by one plus the rate. To remove it you divide by one plus the rate, because the tax is a percentage of the net price, not of the gross. Subtracting 10 percent from a GST-inclusive total under-reports the net by nearly one percent, which compounds fast across a set of invoices. Rate presets cover the common jurisdictions, and any custom rate can be typed in for slab systems such as India where 5, 12, 18 and 28 percent all apply depending on the goods.

The common jurisdictions are one click away instead of typed each time.
Slab systems such as India, where 5, 12, 18 and 28 percent all apply depending on the goods, are handled by typing the rate.
Net, tax and gross are always shown together, which is exactly what an invoice line needs.
Pick whether your figure excludes GST and needs it added, or already includes GST and needs it extracted.
Use a preset for your country or type a custom rate.
The net, the GST and the gross are shown together, so you can copy whichever one the form asks for.
Divide by one plus the rate. To strip 18 percent GST from 1,180, divide by 1.18 to get a net of 1,000 and GST of 180. Subtracting 18 percent would wrongly give 967.60.
Multiply by one plus the rate. Adding 10 percent GST to 500 gives 500 x 1.1, which is 550, of which 50 is GST.
Any rate you type. Presets cover the common ones, including India at 5, 12, 18 and 28 percent, Australia and New Zealand at 10 and 15 percent, Singapore, and the Canadian federal rate.
They work the same way as a tax on value added at each stage, and the arithmetic here is identical. The name simply differs by country, so use whichever term your jurisdiction uses.
