Text Translator

Translate text on your own device, with nothing uploaded.

Checking whether your browser can translate on-device…

Quick Tool Overview

The Text Translator uses the browser's built-in on-device Translator API, so text never leaves your machine. Where the browser does not provide it, the page says so plainly rather than falling back to a service that would upload your text — which is the whole point of the tool.

About the Text Translator

Every online translator sends your text to a server, which is fine for a menu and not fine for a contract, a medical letter or anything under an NDA. Recent browsers changed that by adding a translation model that runs on the device itself.

This tool uses that built-in Translator API where the browser provides it, so the text never leaves your machine. Language packs download once and then work offline. Where the API is not available — which is most browsers today — the page says so plainly rather than silently falling back to a service that would upload your text, and tells you what is needed to enable it. It is an honest tool with a real limitation rather than a dishonest one that pretends otherwise.

Key features of the Text Translator

Nothing is uploaded

The model runs on your device, which is the only reason to use this instead of a full translation service.

Works offline after the first use

The language pack downloads once and then needs no network at all.

Honest fallback

If the browser cannot do it, the page says so — it does not quietly send your text somewhere else.

Automatic source detection

The source language is identified for you, or can be set manually.

Support status shown

The page tells you immediately whether your browser can do this, and what would enable it.

Frequently asked questions

Chrome 138 and later on desktop, with the Translator API enabled. Edge and other Chromium browsers are adding it. Firefox has its own on-device translation built into the browser UI rather than exposed to pages.
