One source produces AVIF, WebP and JPEG · nothing is uploaded
The Picture Element Generator builds the markup that serves AVIF and WebP safely with a JPEG fallback, and generates all three files from one source. The source order is what makes it work, so it is written correctly rather than left to be remembered. Art direction is supported too.
The picture element is how a modern format gets served safely: list AVIF first, WebP second and an ordinary img last, and every browser takes the first one it understands. No feature detection, no JavaScript, no risk.
The order matters and the syntax is fiddly enough to get wrong, so the markup is generated here — and so are the files. One source produces the AVIF, the WebP and the JPEG at whatever quality you choose, with the size of each shown side by side so the saving is visible. Art direction is supported too: a different crop for narrow screens, which is the other thing the picture element exists for.
AVIF, then WebP, then the img fallback — put JPEG first and nobody ever receives AVIF.
One upload produces the whole set, each at its own quality setting.
The three file sizes side by side, so the saving is concrete rather than assumed.
A different crop for narrow screens via the media attribute, which is the other reason picture exists.
Pure HTML that every browser understands, with old ones falling back to the inner img.
One source produces all three formats.
AVIF holds up much lower than JPEG, so it gets its own setting.
Each format's file size is shown, so the benefit is concrete.
A ZIP of all three plus the picture element.
Most modern first: AVIF, then WebP, then the img fallback. The browser takes the first type it supports, so putting JPEG first means nobody ever gets AVIF.
Yes, as the img element inside picture. It covers old browsers, and it is what non-browser clients — email previews, some crawlers, scrapers — will fetch.
Serving a different crop rather than a different size — a tight portrait crop on a phone and a wide landscape on desktop. The media attribute on each source is what selects between them.
Yes. It is pure HTML, understood natively by every browser, and browsers that do not understand it simply use the inner img tag.
