About the Land Area Converter

A flat is advertised in square feet, a deed states decimal or shotangsho, a developer talks in katha, and the village land is measured in bigha or kani. Anyone buying property in Bangladesh has to hold all four in their head at once, and getting it wrong is expensive.

A katha is 720 square feet and a bigha is 20 katha, which makes a bigha 14,400 square feet. A decimal is a hundredth of an acre, or 435.6 square feet, so an acre is 3.025 bigha. Enter any area in any of those — plus chatak, kani, gonda, kora, square metres, square yards, hectares, marla and kanal — and see it in every other unit, along with the bigha-katha-chatak form a deed uses and the side of an equivalent square plot.
