PNG, JPG, SVG or WebP. Square and 512px or larger works best.
Nothing is uploaded — the resizing happens on a canvas in your browser.
Choose an image and every size appears here, previewed at its real dimensions.
The Favicon Generator turns one image into every size a browser or platform actually asks for — 16 through 512, including the Apple touch icon — plus the head markup and the web manifest. It runs on a canvas in your browser, so a logo under embargo before a launch never leaves your machine.
Drop in an image and the generator produces every favicon size a browser or platform actually asks for — 16, 32, 48, 96, 180 for Apple touch, and 192 and 512 for the web manifest — plus the head markup and the manifest file itself.
The whole thing runs on a canvas in your browser, so the image is never uploaded, which matters more here than it sounds: a favicon is usually a logo, and a logo is usually under an embargo before a launch. It is worth caring about because Google shows a favicon beside every result on mobile, so it is part of your listing rather than just browser furniture. The one that catches people out is scale: an icon that reads clearly at 512 pixels is often an illegible smudge at 16, which is why every size is previewed at its real dimensions here.
16, 32, 48, 96, 180 for Apple, and 192 and 512 for the manifest — not the legacy list of twenty.
16 pixels is unforgiving, and seeing it at 16 pixels is the only way to know it works.
The head block and the site.webmanifest are generated alongside the images.
Transparent, or a solid colour for the platforms that handle transparency badly.
Canvas does the resizing locally, which matters when the icon is an unannounced logo.
A square PNG or SVG at 512 pixels or more gives the best results. Nothing is uploaded.
Transparent, or a solid colour for the platforms that do not handle transparency well.
Each size is previewed at its real dimensions — 16 pixels is unforgiving of detail.
Save each PNG, copy the head markup, and add the manifest if you want one.
Far fewer than the old lists suggest. A 32-pixel PNG covers browsers, a 180-pixel apple-touch-icon covers iOS, and 192 and 512 cover the web manifest for Android. An SVG icon covers modern browsers at any size. Everything else is legacy.
Only for very old browsers, and browsers request /favicon.ico automatically whether you declare it or not. A 32-pixel PNG declared in the head handles everything current. The ICO is a nice-to-have, not a requirement.
Because it has detail that cannot survive being 16 pixels across. A favicon at that size is a shape and one or two colours — a full logo with text in it becomes a smudge. Most brands use a simplified mark for the small sizes.
Not rankings, but it appears beside your result on mobile search, so it affects how your listing looks. Google needs to be able to crawl it and it should be square and at least 48 pixels for that use.
