The HowTo Schema Generator turns a set of steps into HowTo JSON-LD, complete with supplies, tools, per-step images and a total time written in the ISO 8601 duration format schema.org requires. Enter minutes and hours as plain numbers and the PT1H30M form is produced for you.
Write one step per line and the generator builds the HowTo JSON-LD around them, with supply and tool lists, an estimated total time in ISO 8601 duration format, and optional per-step images and anchors.
As with FAQ markup, be clear about what you are getting. Google retired the HowTo rich result for desktop and mobile in 2023, so the numbered carousel this markup used to produce is no longer drawn in ordinary search results. What remains is a machine-readable description of your procedure that answer engines and assistants read, and a discipline that improves the page itself — writing steps tight enough to fit this structure usually makes the guide better. The duration field is the one people fumble: ISO 8601 wants PT1H30M rather than "an hour and a half", and this tool converts plain minutes and hours for you.
Steps are numbered, positioned and turned into HowToStep objects without any nesting on your part.
Supplies are consumed by the task, tools are not — schema.org draws the distinction and so does this.
Type 90 minutes and get PT1H30M, the format that is easy to get wrong by hand.
Attach an image or a URL fragment to any step so the markup points at the right part of the page.
It states that the HowTo carousel was removed in 2023, rather than implying a result you will not get.
Write the title as the thing being achieved — "How to reset a circuit breaker" — plus a short description.
One per line. Each becomes a HowToStep, in the order given, with its position numbered for you.
Supplies are consumed, tools are not. Both are optional but both help the item read as complete.
Enter minutes or hours in plain numbers; the tool converts them to the ISO duration schema.org needs.
Paste it into the guide, making sure every step in the markup is also visible on the page.
No. Google removed the HowTo rich result in 2023 for both desktop and mobile. The markup is still valid and is still consumed by other systems, including AI answer engines, but it will not draw a step carousel in Google search results any more.
HowTo is a single procedure with ordered steps toward one outcome. FAQ is a set of unrelated questions. If reordering your content would break it, it is a HowTo; if the items stand alone in any order, it is an FAQ.
ISO 8601 duration: PT30M for thirty minutes, PT1H30M for an hour and a half, P2D for two days. This tool takes plain numbers and writes the ISO form, because it is easy to get wrong by hand.
No, images are optional throughout. If you have them, per-step images make the item more complete and are used by some consumers of the data; if you do not, the markup is still valid without them.
