The Review Schema Generator writes both shapes of rating markup — a single Review with a named author, and an AggregateRating averaged across a review count — nested inside the thing being reviewed. It limits the type list to the ones Google actually draws stars for, and says plainly which reviews are disqualified.
Choose what is being reviewed, enter the rating and the reviewer, and the generator writes either a single Review or an AggregateRating nested inside the thing it describes. Both shapes are produced from the same fields, so you can see how the two differ.
Review markup carries the strictest eligibility rules of any common schema type, and knowing them saves you from building something that will never show. Google only renders review stars for a defined list of types — Book, Course, Event, HowTo, LocalBusiness, Movie, Product, Recipe, SoftwareApplication and a few others — so a review of an Article or an Organization is valid markup that produces nothing. Self-serving reviews, meaning a review of your own business on your own site, were disqualified in 2019. And the ratings must come from reviews a visitor can actually read on that page.
The type list is the one Google renders stars for, so you cannot build markup that was never going to show.
Set bestRating and worstRating for out-of-ten or out-of-a-hundred scores, which are otherwise read as out of five.
Output one, the other, or the individual reviews nested under the aggregate as a product page usually needs.
The panel flags reviews of your own business on your own site, which have been disqualified since 2019.
The rating is drawn as stars so a value entered against the wrong scale is immediately obvious.
Choose the type from the list Google supports. Anything outside it will validate but never show stars.
One named reviewer with a rating, or an average across a count of reviews. You can output both.
Set the scale, the value and the count. Every number must match what is visible on the page.
Paste it into the page that shows the reviews, then check it with the Rich Results Test.
Usually the type. Google only draws review stars for a specific set of types — Product, Book, Course, Event, HowTo, LocalBusiness, Movie, Recipe, SoftwareApplication and a few more. Reviews attached to an Article, an Organization or a plain WebPage are ignored no matter how valid the markup is.
Not on your own site. Google disqualified self-serving reviews in September 2019: a review of your business, on a page you control, does not earn stars. Reviews of products you sell are still fine, provided the reviews are genuine and visible.
Review is one person's opinion with a rating and an author. AggregateRating is the average across many, with a ratingValue and a reviewCount. A product page usually wants the aggregate, plus the individual reviews nested underneath it.
No. Set bestRating and worstRating to whatever scale you use — out of ten, out of a hundred — and Google normalises it. If you leave them out, five and one are assumed, so a 9/10 rating with no scale declared reads as a 9 out of 5.
