The SERP CTR Calculator turns a search volume and a ranking position into an estimated click count, then shows what every position from one to twenty would deliver for the same keyword. Add a conversion rate and order value and the gap gets a number — which is how a ranking improvement gets prioritised against everything else competing for the time.
Enter a monthly search volume and a position and the calculator estimates the clicks, then shows what every position from one to twenty would deliver for the same keyword. Add a conversion rate and an order value and it puts a number on the gap.
The curve behind it is the important caveat. Click-through rates by position come from large-scale studies of aggregated Search Console data, and they vary enormously by query type: a branded search sends most of its clicks to position one, while a broad informational query with an AI overview, a featured snippet and four ads above the results sends far fewer clicks anywhere. Treat the output as an order of magnitude for prioritising work, not a forecast. Your own Search Console data, filtered to a query group, is always the better curve.
Branded, generic and AI-overview results behave very differently, so they are separate curves.
Every position from 1 to 20, so the steepness at the top is visible rather than described.
Conversion rate and order value turn a click estimate into a number a budget conversation can use.
It says plainly that curves are for prioritising and your own Search Console data is the better source.
A deliberately more pessimistic curve for queries carrying an AI overview, which is where clicks have fallen.
Monthly searches for the keyword, from a research tool or Search Console.
Where you rank now. Use the average position from Search Console rather than a spot check.
Branded, generic or a SERP with an AI overview — the three behave very differently.
Every position from 1 to 20, with the clicks and value each would deliver.
As a rough guide, useful; as a forecast, no. Real click-through rates vary by query type, intent, whether the result has a rich snippet, and how much of the page is taken up by ads and AI overviews. Use a curve for prioritising, and your own Search Console data for anything you are committing to.
Commonly cited figures put it around 25 to 40 percent, but the spread behind that average is enormous. A branded query can send 60 percent or more to position one; an informational query with an AI overview above it can send under 10 percent to anyone.
Yes, and the change is still moving. Studies since 2024 consistently show lower click-through to organic results on queries carrying an AI overview, particularly informational ones. The AI overview curve here is deliberately more pessimistic for that reason.
That is exactly what this is for. The curve is steep at the top, so two places near the top are worth far more than two places in the middle — the difference between 5 and 3 is usually larger than the difference between 15 and 10.
