About the CSV to TSV Converter

Tab-separated text is what you paste into a spreadsheet cell by cell, what many bioinformatics and analytics tools expect, and what avoids the endless argument about commas inside values. Converting to it is not quite a search-and-replace, because a real CSV can hold commas, quotes and line breaks inside a single quoted field.

This reads CSV properly — RFC 4180 quoting, doubled quotes, embedded newlines — and then writes tab-separated text. Because a plain TSV has no way to hold a tab or a line break inside a value, you choose what happens to those: replace them with a space, escape them as \t and \n, or quote the field Excel-style. Ragged rows are padded so the result stays a clean grid, and the count of fields that had to be cleaned is shown so nothing changes silently.

Key features of the CSV to TSV Converter

Real CSV reading

Quoted fields, doubled quotes and embedded line breaks are understood, not split blindly.

You choose the trade-off

Tabs and line breaks inside a field become a space, a \t escape, or a quoted field.

Nothing changes silently

The number of fields that had to be cleaned is reported every time.

Ragged rows squared up

Rows with too few columns are padded so the result stays a clean grid.

LF or CRLF

Pick the line endings the tool on the other side expects.

Frequently asked questions

Because a quoted field can contain a comma. "M6, zinc" is one value; replacing commas blindly turns it into two and shifts every column after it.
