Cost per lead
—
The Cost Per Lead Calculator turns campaign spend and lead volume into a CPL figure instantly, with leads per $1,000 spent and — when you add a close rate — the cost per customer that channel really carries.
Cost per lead is the first honest number in any lead-generation channel: what it actually costs to get one person to raise their hand. It sits earlier in the funnel than CAC, which is why a channel can look cheap on CPL and still lose money once the leads fail to close.
Enter what a campaign cost and how many leads it produced, and the CPL appears straight away, along with how many leads $1,000 buys at that rate. Add your lead-to-customer conversion rate and it also works out what a customer really costs through that channel — usually the figure that settles an argument about budget.
CPL updates live as spend or lead count changes.

CPL = Total campaign spend ÷ Number of leads generated. $4,800 spent for 240 leads is a CPL of $20.
It varies enormously by industry and deal size — a B2B lead worth a five-figure contract can justify hundreds of dollars, while a newsletter sign-up should cost a fraction of that. Judge CPL against what a lead is worth to you, not against an external average.
CPL counts leads — people who gave you contact details. CPA counts completed conversions, and CAC counts paying customers. CPL is always the cheapest of the three, because most leads never buy.
A fully-loaded CPL includes them and gives a more honest number. Many teams track a simpler spend-only CPL day to day and review the loaded version quarterly.
