About the Text to Braille Converter

Braille cells have their own block in Unicode, which means braille can be written in an ordinary text file, shown on a web page, or sent to a refreshable display or an embosser. Working out the cells by hand means memorising sixty-four dot patterns and the rules for capitals and numbers.

Type or paste text and get Unified English Braille, grade 1: every letter written out, capitals marked with ⠠, digits introduced by the number sign ⠼, and the letter sign ⠰ added where a letter after a number would otherwise be read as another digit. Common punctuation is included, and the first cells are drawn as real dot patterns so you can see what each one means. It also runs in reverse on the Braille to Text page.
