About the SRT to VTT Converter

HTML5 video takes captions through the track element, and that element reads WebVTT. Almost every subtitle file in the world is SubRip. The two formats are nearly identical — which is exactly why a hand conversion goes wrong: the difference is a comma, a dot, and one header line.

Paste the .srt and get valid WebVTT. Timestamps are rewritten with a dot instead of a comma, the required WEBVTT header is added with an optional title, and cue numbers are kept or dropped as you choose. Italic and bold tags can be kept or stripped. Every cue can be shifted by a number of seconds, which is the usual fix when subtitles run ahead of or behind the video. The cue count, word count and speaking rate are shown as it goes.
