The Square Image Maker pads a photo out to a perfect 1:1 rather than cropping it, so the edges of the picture survive. Fill the leftover space with white, black, a colour of your choosing, or a blurred copy of the image itself. Sized to the longer edge by default, which means no resampling happens at all.
Feeds and grids want squares, and photographs almost never are. The usual fix is to crop, which means losing the edges of the picture — often the part that gave it context.
Padding out to a square instead keeps the whole photograph and fills the leftover space. A flat white or black fill is the clean option; a blurred, enlarged copy of the image itself is the one that looks deliberate on a feed rather than like a mistake. The square is sized to the longer edge by default, so no resampling happens at all — but you can force a specific output size, such as 1080 by 1080, when the destination expects one.
Padding rather than cropping means the edges of a wide shot survive instead of being thrown away.
An enlarged, blurred copy of the image behind the sharp original reads as deliberate rather than as empty margin.
The square is sized to the longer edge, so the original pixels are copied across untouched.
Set 1080x1080 when the destination expects it, instead of leaving the platform to resize for you.
White and black are one click; anything else comes from the colour picker, including full transparency.
Any shape, portrait or landscape. The current ratio is shown.
White, black, a colour of your choice, a blurred copy of the image, or transparent.
Leave it on the longer edge for no resampling, or force 1080 by 1080 for a feed.
Save the result, ready to post or upload.
Cropping throws away the edges, which on a wide landscape shot can be most of the picture. Padding keeps everything and puts the missing area in the fill instead.
1080 by 1080 pixels. Anything larger is resized down on upload; anything much smaller is upscaled and looks soft.
It takes an enlarged, heavily blurred copy of your photograph, draws it across the whole square, and places the sharp original on top. The result reads as depth rather than as empty margin.
Not by default — the square is sized to the longer edge, so the original pixels are copied across untouched. Forcing a smaller output size does resample, which is a deliberate choice you make.
