Turn a name into a coloured initials avatar.
Avatar
The Avatar Initials Generator turns a name into a coloured letter avatar, with the colour derived from a hash of the name — so the same person is always the same colour, on every device, with nothing stored. A batch mode turns a pasted list of names into a ZIP of avatars.
Initials avatars are what every application shows when a user has not uploaded a photograph, and the detail that makes them work is that the colour comes from the name — so the same person is always the same colour, everywhere, without storing anything.
That is how these are generated: the name is hashed and the hash picks a colour from a palette chosen for legible contrast against white text. Shape, size, font weight and corner radius are all adjustable, initials can be one letter or two, and a batch mode turns a pasted list of names into a ZIP of avatars — which is how you seed a demo or a design mockup with a hundred plausible users.
Hashed rather than random, so the same person gets the same colour everywhere without anything being stored.
The colours are chosen for contrast against white text, so the initials are always readable.
Circle, rounded square or square, with adjustable radius, size and font weight.
Paste a hundred names and get a hundred avatars as a ZIP, which is how a demo gets populated.
Two for a full name, one for a single word — configurable, since three become unreadable at avatar sizes.
The initials and the colour are both derived from it.
Circle, rounded square or square, at whatever size you need.
Pick a palette or fix a single colour if the design requires one.
Download a single avatar, or paste a list of names for a ZIP.
By hashing the name and using the result to index a palette. The same name always produces the same colour, on any device, with nothing stored.
Two for a full name, one when only a single word is given. Three or more become unreadable at typical avatar sizes.
128 pixels covers most interface use, 256 for retina displays. Generate at twice the display size and let the browser scale down.
Yes. Paste the names one per line and each becomes its own file inside a ZIP, named after the person.
