About the Restaurant Invoice Generator

A restaurant bill is not a normal invoice. It carries a table and cover count, prices that already include tax, an optional service charge that is itself taxable in some countries and not in others, and a tip line that must sit outside the total so the customer decides it.

This builder handles that order of operations. Items are entered at menu prices with tax inside them, the service charge is a percentage applied to the food and drink before the total, and the tip is left as a line the customer fills in rather than a figure you have decided for them.

It prints to A4 for a business customer who needs a proper invoice for expenses, or to an 80mm roll for the table. Table number, covers and server go in the header, which is what turns a bill into something you can match against the night’s takings.

Key features of the Restaurant Invoice Generator

Covers and table in the header

What lets a bill be matched against the night’s takings.

Menu prices as typed

Tax-inclusive, because that is what a consumer price must be.

Service charge as a percentage

Applied to food and drink, labelled discretionary or not.

Tip below the total

A line the customer fills in, not a figure you decided.

A4 or till roll

A proper invoice for an expenses claim, or a receipt for the table.

How to use the Restaurant Invoice Generator

  1. 1

    Set the table and covers

Table number, number of covers and the server, in the header fields.

  2. 2

Enter the items at menu prices

Tax is inside them, so type what is on the menu.

  3. 3

    Add the service charge

As a percentage of food and drink. Say clearly whether it is discretionary.

  4. 4

Leave the tip to the customer

A tip line below the total, not a figure added to it.

  5. 5

    Print the bill

A4 for an expenses claim, or the Receipt template for the table.

Frequently asked questions

It depends where you are and whether it is discretionary. In the UK, a genuinely optional service charge is outside the scope of VAT; a compulsory one is standard-rated. Check your local rule before you decide how to show it.
