Resize Image to KB shrinks a photo until it fits an exact file size limit — the 200 KB cap on a job application, the 1 MB cap on a registration form. The tool searches for the highest quality that still fits, by bisection rather than guesswork, and reduces the dimensions as well if quality alone cannot get there. The result is never over the number you asked for.
Government portals, job applications and exam registrations are full of forms that reject anything over 200 KB, and no photo editor has a "make it exactly 200 KB" button. This one does.
Type the limit, and the tool searches for the highest quality setting that still fits under it, narrowing in by bisection rather than guessing. If quality alone cannot get there — which happens when a very large photograph is pushed under a very small cap — it reduces the dimensions as well and tells you it has done so. The result is always at or under the number you asked for, which is the only thing the form on the other end cares about.
A bisection search converges on the best quality that stays under your cap, so you never overshoot or leave quality on the table.
When quality alone cannot reach the target, the pixel size is reduced too — and the tool tells you it has done so.
Type the limit in whichever unit the form quotes, so there is no converting in your head.
WebP fits noticeably more picture into the same bytes when the form accepts it; JPEG is the default because most do not.
Only a result at or under the limit is accepted, so the file you download always passes the check on the other end.
Drop in the image the form rejected. Its current size is shown at the top.
Enter the maximum, in KB or MB — 200 KB and 1 MB are the two that come up most.
The quality is narrowed automatically until the file fits, and the final size is reported.
Save the result and submit it. It will be at or under the cap you set.
By bisection. It encodes at full quality, then repeatedly halves the search range between the settings that fit and those that do not, converging on the best quality that stays under your limit in about ten passes.
The tool reduces the pixel dimensions as well as the quality, and says so. There is a point below which a photograph cannot go while remaining recognisable, and it will tell you when you have reached it.
WebP fits roughly 25 to 35 percent more picture into the same bytes, so use it when the form accepts it. Many older upload forms only accept JPEG, which is why JPEG is the default.
No. The search only ever accepts a result at or under the number you typed, so the file you download always passes the check.
