The Instagram Image Resizer fits a photo to any of the four shapes Instagram accepts — square, portrait, landscape and full-screen — by cropping or padding, so you decide what is kept rather than the app's automatic crop. A safe-zone overlay shows where the interface covers a story.
Instagram accepts three feed shapes and one full-screen shape, and uploading anything else means letting the app crop it for you — usually badly.
Every current size is here as a preset: 1080 by 1080 square, 1080 by 1350 portrait, 1080 by 566 landscape, and 1080 by 1920 for stories and reels. You choose whether to crop into the photo or pad it out with a colour or a blurred fill, and a safe-zone overlay shows where the interface covers the frame on stories — the top and bottom bands where a caption or a sticker would be hidden behind the profile row and the reply bar.
1080x1080 square, 1080x1350 portrait, 1080x566 landscape and 1080x1920 for stories and reels.
Crop when the subject is central; pad with a colour or blurred fill when the whole frame matters.
The top and bottom bands where the profile row and reply bar sit are marked, so nothing important hides behind them.
The photo's current ratio and how far it is from each preset are reported on load.
Resizing happens on a canvas in your browser, which also means no compression before Instagram's own.
Its current shape and how far it is from each preset are shown.
Square, portrait, landscape, or story and reel.
Crop fills the frame; padding keeps the whole photo with a colour or blurred fill.
On stories, the overlay shows where the interface will cover your image.
1080 by 1080 for a square, 1080 by 1350 for portrait — which takes up the most screen in a feed — and 1080 by 566 for landscape. Stories and reels are 1080 by 1920.
Because it does not match an accepted ratio, so the app crops centrally to the nearest one. Resizing first means you decide what is kept rather than the algorithm.
Crop when the subject is central and the edges do not matter. Pad when the whole frame matters — a blurred fill reads as deliberate rather than as a mistake.
Roughly the top 250 and bottom 250 pixels of a 1920-tall story, where the profile row, caption field and reply bar sit. Keep anything important out of those bands.
