The Image Info Checker reports the facts about a file: dimensions, simplified aspect ratio, megapixels, real format from the signature bytes rather than the extension, whether the alpha channel is actually used, and a print size table. Bytes per pixel tells you whether there is compression left on the table.
Sometimes you just need the facts about a file: how big it is in pixels, what shape that makes it, what format it actually is rather than what the extension claims, and whether it has transparency.
All of that is read from the file itself rather than from its name. The format comes from the signature bytes, so a PNG renamed to .jpg is reported correctly. Transparency is detected by actually checking the alpha channel rather than assuming it from the format. The aspect ratio is reduced to its simplest whole-number form, the megapixel count and the bytes-per-pixel ratio are calculated, and a print size table shows what the image supports at each density.
Read from the file signature, so a PNG renamed to .jpg is reported as what it actually is.
The alpha channel is examined rather than assumed from the format, so a PNG that does not use it says so.
Reduced to whole numbers and matched to a named standard where one fits.
A quick read on compression efficiency — a high figure means there are savings available.
What the image supports at 150, 300 and 600 DPI, in both centimetres and inches.
Any image your browser can decode.
Dimensions, ratio, megapixels, format and file size.
Real format from the signature bytes, transparency from the alpha channel.
What the image supports at 150, 300 and 600 DPI.
Because the extension is just part of the filename and can be anything. The format here is read from the file's signature bytes, which is what actually determines how it decodes.
How efficiently the file is compressed. Under about 0.5 is well compressed, above 2 suggests a lossless format or a very high quality setting, and there may be savings available.
By reading the alpha channel and looking for any pixel below full opacity. A PNG can be in a format that supports transparency without actually using it, and this tells the difference.
Divide each dimension by the DPI. A 3000 by 2000 pixel image is 10 by 6.7 inches at 300 DPI. The table works that out for the three densities that matter.
