Find the closest PANTONE® solid colour to any HEX, RGB or CMYK colour.
The HEX to Pantone Converter finds the closest PANTONE® Solid Coated or Uncoated colours to any HEX, RGB or CMYK value using CIEDE2000, and looks up Pantone codes to give their HEX, RGB and CMYK.
Spot colours are specified in Pantone, and a brand that lives on screens usually has only a HEX code until the day it needs a printed box, a T-shirt or a sign. Finding the right Pantone by scrolling through swatch books on screen is slow, and picking the one that looks closest is unreliable.
Enter any colour and the converter compares it with over 3,000 Pantone Solid Coated and Uncoated screen values, ranking the closest by CIEDE2000 — the colour difference formula the print industry uses — and saying in plain words how visible each difference is. Your colour and each match sit side by side. You can also look a Pantone code up directly to get its HEX, RGB and CMYK.
Solid Coated and Uncoated libraries, searchable separately or together.
Matches are ranked by the perceptual difference formula used in print.
Your colour and each Pantone are shown together so you can judge by eye.
Each ΔE is described — invisible, slight, noticeable or clearly different.
Type a Pantone code to see its screen HEX, RGB and CMYK values.
A HEX code, an RGB or CMYK value, or pick it on screen.
Solid Coated for glossy stock, Uncoated for matt paper, or both.
Each match is shown beside your colour with its ΔE difference.
Type a Pantone code such as 186 C to see its screen values.
There is no exact formula, because Pantone colours are physical inks. The converter finds the Pantone whose screen value is perceptually nearest to your HEX.
Delta E 2000 measures how different two colours look. Under 1 is invisible, 1–2 needs a close look, and above 5 the colours are clearly different.
Match the paper. Coated (C) inks sit on glossy stock and look brighter; the same ink on uncoated (U) paper soaks in and looks softer.
Use them to shortlist. Monitors cannot show ink exactly, so approve the final choice against a physical Pantone Formula Guide.
