Straight from an iPhone camera roll · decoded on your device, never uploaded
The HEIC to JPG Converter decodes the format iPhones save photographs in and hands back a JPG or PNG that Windows, web forms and older software can actually read. The decoder is a WebAssembly build that runs inside the page, so camera roll photos are never uploaded. Several files can be converted at once and taken as a ZIP.
iPhones save photographs as HEIC because it is roughly half the size of JPEG at the same quality. The trouble starts the moment one of those files leaves the Apple ecosystem: Windows, most web forms and a lot of software simply cannot read it.
This converter decodes HEIC in the browser using a WebAssembly build of the reference decoder, so the photographs are never uploaded to anyone — which matters, because HEIC files come straight from a camera roll. The decoder is a few hundred kilobytes and is fetched the first time you convert something, then reused. Several files can be converted in one go and taken as a ZIP.
A WebAssembly decoder does the work locally, so photographs from a camera roll never reach a server.
Select a whole selection of HEIC files and take the results as one ZIP.
JPG for forms and sharing; PNG when the result needs to stay lossless for editing.
The WebAssembly module is fetched on the first conversion and reused for everything after it.
The JPG will usually be larger than the HEIC, and the figures are shown so that is expected rather than alarming.
Drop in one photo or a whole selection from your camera roll.
A small WebAssembly decoder loads once on the first conversion, then stays ready.
JPG for photographs and upload forms; PNG when you need it lossless.
Take one file, or the whole batch as a ZIP.
HEIC needs a codec that Windows does not ship by default — it is a paid add-on in the Microsoft Store. Converting to JPG sidesteps that entirely.
No. The decoder runs as WebAssembly inside your browser, so the image data never leaves your device. That is the point of doing it this way for camera roll photographs.
Usually yes, often around twice the size, because HEIC compresses considerably better than JPEG. That is the trade you make for a file everything can open.
Settings, then Camera, then Formats, then choose Most Compatible. New photographs will be JPEG, though existing HEIC files stay as they are.
