Circle Image Cropper

Crop any photo into a circle with transparent corners.

Drop an image here, or click to choose one

JPEG, PNG or WebP · the corners come out transparent, so the download is a PNG

Quick Tool Overview

The Circle Image Cropper masks a photo into a circle or rounded square and hands it back as a PNG with genuinely transparent corners. Position the subject inside the frame, add a ring if you want one, and the result drops cleanly onto any background — a slide, a signature, a document — rather than carrying a white box around with it.

About the Circle Image Cropper

Most places that show a round avatar crop a square image at display time, which is fine until you need the round version as a real file — in a slide, a PDF, an email signature or a print layout. This tool bakes the circle into the picture itself.

Position the subject inside the frame, choose a circle or a rounded square, and optionally add a ring in any colour. The corners come out genuinely transparent rather than white, which is why the download is a PNG: JPEG has no alpha channel and would fill those corners in. If you do want a solid background behind the circle, set one and it is drawn underneath.

Key features of the Circle Image Cropper

Truly transparent corners

The mask is written to the alpha channel and saved as PNG, so the circle sits on any colour without a visible square behind it.

Smooth anti-aliased edge

The circle is drawn with anti-aliasing rather than a hard pixel mask, so the rim stays clean at every size.

Circle or rounded square

Switch to a rounded square with an adjustable radius, which is the shape app icons and many chat avatars use.

Optional ring

Add an outline in any colour and width to separate the avatar from what it is placed on.

Position before you cut

Drag and scale the picture inside the frame so the face lands where you want it, rather than accepting a centre crop.

How to use the Circle Image Cropper

  1. 1

    Choose a photo

Drop in the picture you want as an avatar. Portraits work best when the face is near the centre.

  2. 2

    Frame the subject

Drag the round frame over the part you want to keep and resize it to taste.

  3. 3

Add a ring if you want one

Set a border width and colour to give the avatar an outline, or leave it at zero.

  4. 4

    Download the PNG

Save it with transparent corners so it sits cleanly on any background.

Frequently asked questions

Because the corners outside the circle are transparent, and JPEG has no transparency. Saving as JPEG would fill those corners with a solid colour and defeat the point.
