Escape Text
Escape a string for JSON, JavaScript, SQL, shell or regex.
Break text into chunks by delimiter, length, lines or words.
Split Text breaks a block into pieces by a delimiter, or into chunks of a set character, word or line count. Character chunking can respect word boundaries so nothing is cut mid-word, which is what a 280-character social post needs.
Splitting text comes up constantly and rarely in the same way twice. A CSV row needs splitting on commas. A long post needs splitting into 280-character pieces. A large import file needs splitting into batches of five hundred lines. A transcript needs splitting into equal word counts for distribution among reviewers.
All four are here. Split on any delimiter including tabs and regular expressions, or into chunks by character count, line count or word count. Character splitting can respect word boundaries so nothing is cut mid-word, which is what a social post needs. Each piece is numbered and separated clearly, and the piece count and sizes are shown so you can see immediately whether the split did what you expected.
By delimiter, by character count, by word count or by line count — the four that actually come up.
Character splitting steps back to the last whole word, so no piece ends halfway through a word.
For anything more complicated than a fixed string, with invalid patterns reported rather than silently ignored.
The invisible characters have their own options rather than needing to be typed.
Each numbered piece carries its length, so you can check the split before relying on it.
A CSV row, a long post, an import file or a transcript.
By a delimiter, or into chunks of a set number of characters, words or lines.
For character chunks, decide whether to break mid-word or step back to the last whole word.
Each piece is numbered with its size, so you can check the split before you use it.
Yes. Tabs, newlines and other invisible characters have their own options, and there is a regular expression mode for anything more complicated than a fixed string.
Split by character count, set the limit to 280, and switch on word boundary respect so no piece ends mid-word. Numbering each piece gives you the (1/5) markers as well.
They are removed by default, since consecutive delimiters usually mean a missing value rather than an empty piece you wanted. There is a switch to keep them when the position matters.
Yes. Split by line count and set the batch size — five hundred lines per piece is a common import limit — and each batch comes out as its own numbered block.
