About the Link Extractor

A link audit needs more than a list of URLs. It needs the anchor text, because that is what tells search engines and readers what the link is for. It needs the rel attributes, because nofollow and sponsored change what a link does. And it needs to know which links leave the site.

This parses HTML properly rather than pattern-matching it, so every anchor is found with its text, its href, its rel and target attributes, and whether it points inside or outside the domain you name. Empty anchor text and generic anchors such as "click here" are flagged, since both are accessibility problems and both waste the signal a link could have carried.

Key features of the Link Extractor

Anchor text included

Which is what a link audit is actually about — a list of bare URLs tells you very little.

Internal and external split

Name your domain and every link is classified, so outbound links are countable.

rel attributes surfaced

nofollow, sponsored and ugc shown per link, since an unmarked paid link is a policy violation.

Weak anchors flagged

Empty anchors and "click here" are marked as both accessibility and SEO problems.

No requests made

Only the markup you paste is read, so nothing about your audit reaches the sites in it.

How to use the Link Extractor

  1. 1

    Paste the HTML

Page source, a CMS export or a fragment of markup.

  2. 2

    Set your domain

So links can be classified as internal or external.

  3. 3

    Read the link table

Anchor text, href, rel attributes and classification for every link.

  4. 4

    Check the flagged rows

Empty anchors and generic text such as "click here" are marked.

Frequently asked questions

It tells search engines what the target page is about and tells screen reader users where a link goes. A page of links all reading "click here" is unusable with assistive technology and passes no useful signal.
