Check GSTINs on Indian invoices: state, PAN and the check character, in bulk.
The Invoice GST Number Validator checks Indian GSTINs in bulk: the 15-character structure, the state code by name, the PAN inside the number, and the base-36 weighted check character, showing the character it should have been when it fails.
A GSTIN is not an arbitrary string: it is two digits for the state, the supplier’s ten-character PAN, an entity number, the letter Z, and a check character worked out from everything before it. That structure means a mistyped GSTIN can be caught on the spot, before it reaches a GSTR-2B mismatch.
Paste one GSTIN or a column of them from a purchase register. Each is checked for length and shape, the state code is looked up and named, the PAN is pulled out, and the check character is recalculated with the base-36 weighted rule the GSTN uses. Where it fails, the character it should have been is shown.
The state code matters beyond validation: it decides whether a supply is CGST and SGST or IGST, which is the single most common mistake on an Indian invoice. Everything runs in your browser — no GSTN portal, no upload, no login.
The base-36 weighted rule the GSTN uses.
Which decides CGST and SGST against IGST.
Straight out of the number.
A whole register column at once.
It all runs in your browser.
One per line, or a column from a purchase register.
Both are pulled out of the number itself.
The expected check character is shown for each.
For new suppliers, search the GSTIN on the GST portal.
Two digits for the state, then the ten-character PAN of the business, then an entity number for multiple registrations on the same PAN, then Z, then a check character.
No. The checksum proves the number is well formed. Registration status, and whether it has been cancelled, can only be seen on the GST portal.
Because it decides the tax split: within one state, CGST and SGST at half the rate each; across states, IGST at the full rate.
No. The whole check runs in your browser.
