About the Height Calculator

Two height tools in one. The converter moves between feet and inches, centimetres and metres in any direction, which covers the everyday job of filling in a form that wants units you do not think in.

The predictor estimates a child's adult height using the mid-parental method: average the parents' heights, then add or subtract 6.5 centimetres depending on the child's sex. It is a rough guide with a genuine margin of around 8 to 10 centimetres either way, because nutrition, health and the ordinary variation of genetics all play a part. Use it as a talking point rather than a forecast, and see a paediatrician about any real concern over growth.

Key features of the Height Calculator

Every direction

Feet and inches, centimetres and metres convert both ways, which covers the everyday job of a form wanting units you do not think in.

Mid-parental prediction

Average the parents' heights, then add or subtract 6.5 centimetres depending on the child's sex.

A range, not a number

The genuine margin is around 8 to 10 centimetres either way, and the result is presented as a range because of it.

Honest framing

Nutrition, health and ordinary genetic variation all play a part, so the prediction is a talking point rather than a forecast.

Instant conversion

Type in one unit and the others fill in as you go.
