About the Duplicate Text Checker

This looks for repetition inside one document rather than between two. That is a different problem and a more common one: a long article that says the same thing in two sections, a product catalogue where twenty descriptions share the same boilerplate paragraph, or a report where a sentence was pasted twice during editing.

Every repeated sentence and phrase is found and reported with all of its positions, so you can see where the duplication happened. The minimum phrase length is adjustable — three words catches stock openings such as "in order to", eight words catches genuinely duplicated sentences. Comparison can ignore case and punctuation, which is what finds the near-matches that an exact search misses.

Key features of the Duplicate Text Checker

Adjustable phrase length

Eight words finds duplicated sentences; three finds stock phrases and repeated openings.

Every occurrence located

Each repeat is reported with where it appears, so you can see which section duplicated which.

Near-match detection

Ignoring case and punctuation catches the duplicates that an exact search walks straight past.

Sentence-level view

Whole repeated sentences are listed separately from repeated phrases, since they are a different problem.

Honest about SEO

The page says plainly that within-page repetition is a quality signal, not a Google penalty.

How to use the Duplicate Text Checker

  1. 1

    Paste your document

An article, a catalogue, a report or any long text.

    Set the phrase length

How many consecutive words count as a repeated phrase — eight is a good default for sentences.

  3. 3

Ignore case and punctuation to catch near-matches that an exact search would miss.

  4. 4

    Review the findings

Every repeated phrase is listed with how many times it appears and where each occurrence is.

Frequently asked questions

Eight words for finding duplicated sentences, which is long enough that a match is almost never a coincidence. Three or four words finds stock phrases and repeated openings, which is useful for style editing but produces many more results.
