The Digit Counter reports how many individual digits a text contains and, separately, how many distinct numbers — two different questions that get confused constantly. It lists every number it found, totals them, and shows how often each digit from 0 to 9 appears.
There is a difference between how many digits a text contains and how many numbers it contains, and both are worth knowing. "Order 1204 shipped on 15/03" holds eight digits but three numbers. When you are validating an ID field, the digit count is the check that matters; when you are auditing a document for figures, the number count is.
This tool reports both, lists every number it found, and totals them. It also breaks the count down by digit, which is a quick way to spot a padded or sequential identifier. Because it works on any text at all, it is as useful for checking a phone number field as for auditing how many statistics a report actually cites.
"2024" is four digits and one number — the tool reports both, because the two answer different questions.
Every number in the text is listed in order with a running sum, which turns a document audit into one paste.
Switch on decimal recognition and 3.14 reads as one value and -5 as negative five, rather than being split at the punctuation.
The count of each digit from 0 to 9 exposes padding, sequences and repeated identifiers at a glance.
The 2 in "H2O" is a digit and is counted as one, so nothing is quietly missed.
An ID, a form field, a paragraph or an entire report.
Digits counts individual characters 0-9; numbers counts each run of digits as one value.
Every number found is listed in order, with the total of them all.
The count of each digit from 0 to 9 is shown, which exposes padding and sequences.
A digit is a single character from 0 to 9. A number is an unbroken run of them. "2024" is four digits and one number. The two figures answer different questions, so both are shown.
Yes when the "recognise decimals" option is on, so 3.14 is read as a single number rather than two. Turn it off if full stops in your text are sentence endings rather than decimal points.
A leading minus sign is recognised when decimal handling is on, so -5 is read as negative five and subtracts from the total. Without it, the minus is treated as punctuation and 5 is counted.
Yes. The 2 in "H2O" and the 4 in "B4" are digits and count towards the digit total. They also count as numbers, since a number is simply an unbroken run of digits.
