Every artboard, drawn as vectors in your browser · no Illustrator needed, nothing uploaded
The AI File Viewer opens Adobe Illustrator .ai files without Illustrator. It draws the PDF copy of the artwork every .ai file carries as sharp vectors, shows each artboard, and gives the artboard size in millimetres and inches. Save PNG, JPG or WebP at up to 600 DPI, an SVG, the PDF itself, or every artboard as a ZIP — all without uploading the file.
Logos, business cards, banners and packaging usually arrive from a designer as an .ai file, and double-clicking it without Illustrator gets you nowhere. What most people do not know is that an Illustrator file saved the normal way is a PDF on the inside — Illustrator writes a complete PDF copy of the artwork precisely so that other programs can show it.
This page reads that copy with a PDF engine running in your browser, so the artwork is drawn as sharp vectors rather than a blurry thumbnail, at 72 DPI for a quick look or up to 600 DPI to check fine print. A file with several artboards shows them all as a strip you can click through. The panel under the preview gives what matters for approving print work: the artboard size in millimetres and inches, the Illustrator version that saved it, and the dates. Save the current artboard as PNG, JPG or WebP, every artboard as a ZIP, the artwork as an SVG, or the PDF itself for a print shop. Older PostScript-based .ai files are rendered by Ghostscript instead. Nothing is uploaded.
The artwork is rendered from its PDF copy at the resolution you pick, never stretched from a thumbnail.
Business card fronts and backs, social sizes, multi-page brochures — each artboard is a thumbnail you can open.
Raster exports carry their DPI, SVG keeps the shapes as vectors, and PDF is ready for any print shop.
The artboard size is given in millimetres, inches and points, the numbers a printer quotes.
A file saved without PDF compatibility is named as such, with what to ask the designer for.
The first artboard appears within a second or two, drawn as vectors.
Files with several artboards show a strip of thumbnails above the preview; click one to open it.
150 DPI suits a screen, 300 DPI a print proof. Keep the background transparent or put the artwork on white paper.
PNG or JPG for sharing, SVG for the web, PDF for printing, or every artboard at once as a ZIP.
Drop it on this page. Illustrator saves a full PDF copy of the artwork inside every .ai file by default, and the page draws that copy in your browser — no Illustrator, no trial, no sign-up.
No. The artwork is drawn inside your browser tab and the file never leaves your device. Unreleased logos and client packaging stay private.
Yes. PNG and JPG are saved at the resolution you choose, with the DPI written into the file so it prints at the right size. SVG keeps the shapes as vectors, and PDF saves the copy of the artwork the .ai file already contains.
The designer switched off "Create PDF Compatible File" when saving. The artwork then exists only in Illustrator's private format, which no other program can draw. Ask for the file to be re-saved with that option on, or for a PDF export.
Yes. Each artboard is a page in the PDF copy, so a file with a front and back business card, or a set of social media sizes, shows each one as a thumbnail you can open and save separately or together.
Close, but a screen cannot show CMYK and spot inks exactly, and neither can a PNG. Use the preview to check layout, text and size; approve final colour from a proof printed by the press.
