The Whitespace Remover strips the spacing damage text picks up when it travels: double spaces, tabs from a spreadsheet, trailing spaces, stacked blank lines and the invisible characters that count towards your limits without ever appearing on screen.
Spacing damage is what you get when text travels. Double spaces left by an old typing habit, tabs pulled out of a spreadsheet, trailing spaces from a code editor, six blank lines between paragraphs, and non-breaking spaces that look ordinary but refuse to wrap.
Tick what you want removed and the cleaned version appears next to the original, with a count of the characters taken out. The invisible-character pass is the one most people miss: zero-width spaces, byte order marks and soft hyphens sit inside pasted text, count towards your character limits and quietly break search and find-and-replace, without ever appearing on screen.
Three presets cover the usual jobs. Tidy up spacing fixes normal prose, one single line joins everything into a continuous block, and remove every space strips whitespace out completely for hashes, tokens and identifiers.
Zero-width spaces, byte order marks and soft hyphens are removed — the ones that break search and find-and-replace while staying invisible.
Tidy spacing for prose, one single line to join everything, and remove every space for hashes, tokens and identifiers.
Every rule can be switched on or off on its own, so you keep the blank lines you want and lose the ones you do not.
Spaces that look ordinary but refuse to wrap are converted or removed rather than left in place.
The cleaned text sits next to the original with a count of exactly how many characters came out.
Drop in text copied from a PDF, a spreadsheet, an email or a web page.
Tidy up spacing suits ordinary prose. The other two presets flatten the text or strip whitespace entirely.
Turn single options on or off, such as trimming line ends or dropping every blank line.
Take the cleaned text to your clipboard, or save it as a plain text file.
It is a space that browsers and word processors refuse to break a line at. Pasted from Word or a web page it looks identical to a normal space, but it breaks text wrapping, sorting and search. This tool converts every one it finds into an ordinary space.
Invisible Unicode characters such as the zero-width space, the byte order mark and the soft hyphen. They take up no room on screen but still count as characters, so they inflate character limits and cause searches to fail for no visible reason.
Leave the option to collapse repeated spaces switched on. Every run of two or more spaces becomes a single space, which is the modern typesetting convention.
Only if you ask. Line breaks are kept by default. Turn on the option to join everything onto one line, or use the preset, when you want a single continuous block.
