The VTT to SRT Converter turns WebVTT captions into SubRip for players and editors, renumbering cues, rewriting timestamps and reporting exactly what WebVTT-only features were dropped.
Captions downloaded from YouTube, exported from a captioning tool, or pulled out of a streaming player arrive as WebVTT. VLC, Premiere, Resolve, Handbrake and most television hardware want SubRip, and handing them a .vtt gets you nothing on screen.
Paste the WebVTT and get a clean .srt. Cues are renumbered from one, timestamps are rewritten with a comma, and the WebVTT-only parts are dealt with honestly: NOTE comments and STYLE blocks are dropped because SubRip has no equivalent, positioning settings are removed and counted so you know they were there, and voice tags such as <v Speaker> are stripped while italic and bold can be kept. Cues can be shifted in time at the same time.
From 1, as SubRip expects.
<v Speaker> is removed; the words stay.
Positioning, STYLE blocks and NOTE comments are counted, not hidden.
Move every cue to line up with the video.
Downloaded captions are WebVTT, and convert directly.
From YouTube, a player or a captioning tool.
Keep italics, strip everything, or leave as is.
To line the captions up with the video.
Ready for VLC, Premiere or a TV.
Positioning (line, align, position), STYLE blocks and NOTE comments — SubRip has none of those. The words and the timings are kept, and the page counts what was dropped.
A WebVTT voice tag naming who is speaking. SubRip has no such tag, so it is stripped; the speaker’s words remain.
Yes, from 1. WebVTT identifiers can be words or missing entirely, while SubRip expects a plain number on each cue.
Yes. Downloaded YouTube captions are WebVTT; paste the file here and you get an .srt that any player reads.
