JSON Unflattener
Rebuild nested JSON from flat dot-notation or bracket-notation keys.
Convert tab-separated data — or a spreadsheet paste — straight into JSON.
The TSV to JSON converter reads tab-separated data — including anything copied straight out of a spreadsheet — into an array of objects, typing the values and flagging rows whose column count does not match the header.
Copy any block of cells out of Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers and what lands on the clipboard is tab-separated text. This converts it directly to JSON, so there is no saving a file and no import step in between.
The header row becomes the object keys, and each subsequent row becomes an object. Values are typed by default — numbers become numbers, true and false become booleans, blanks become null — with the sensible exception of anything with a leading zero, which stays a string so postcodes, SKUs and phone numbers survive. Rows whose column count does not match the header are flagged by line number, which is how a stray tab inside a cell announces itself.
A copy from Excel, Sheets or Numbers is already tab-separated, so pasting it works directly.
Tab, comma, semicolon and pipe are all recognised, and the guess can be overridden when the data is unusual.
A value with a leading zero keeps it, so postcodes, SKUs and phone numbers survive — the thing spreadsheets themselves get wrong.
A row with the wrong column count is reported by line number, which is how an unquoted tab inside a cell announces itself.
Turn the header option off and columns are named column_1, column_2 and so on, so nothing is dropped.
Straight from a spreadsheet, or a .tsv file's contents.
Tab is detected automatically; comma, semicolon and pipe are also supported.
Typed values give real numbers and booleans; turn it off to keep every field a string.
An array of objects, formatted and ready to use.
Yes. A spreadsheet copy is tab-separated text, which is exactly what this reads. No file export is needed.
Because a leading zero means the value is an identifier rather than a number. Anything matching that pattern stays a string, which is what spreadsheets themselves get wrong.
That the row has more or fewer columns than the header. Usually a tab or a line break inside a cell that was not quoted. The line number is reported so you can find it.
Turn the header option off and columns are named column_1, column_2 and so on, so nothing is lost.
