Shuffle Lines
Randomise the order of a list, fairly and repeatably.
Repeat every line a set number of times, in place.
Repeat Text repeats each line individually rather than the block as a whole, which is the version data work almost always needs. Copies can be grouped so each line appears together, or interleaved so the whole list repeats — two very different files from the same input.
This repeats each line rather than the whole block, which is a different job from the Text Repeater and the one you need far more often with data. A list of ten SKUs that each need three rows, a set of names that each need a row per day of the week, a template line that has to appear once per record — all of them are per-line repetition.
Copies can be grouped, so each line appears three times in a row before the next line starts, or interleaved, so the whole list repeats three times over. Those produce very different files and both are commonly needed. A counter can be appended to each copy, which keeps the repeated rows distinguishable when they go into a system that wants unique values.
A A A B B B, or A B C A B C — the two shapes answer different needs and both are one click away.
Append the copy number so repeated rows stay unique for systems that require distinct values.
Gaps are removed before the repeat, since repeating an empty line three times is never the intent.
Lines in and lines out are reported, so a large expansion is never a surprise.
Save the expanded list straight to a text file for an import.
One item per line — the lines you want repeated.
How many times each line should appear in the result.
Grouped keeps the copies of each line together; interleaved repeats the whole list instead.
Append the copy number to each line so the repeated rows stay distinguishable.
The Text Repeater repeats the whole block as a unit. This repeats each line individually, so a three-line list repeated three times gives nine lines with each original line appearing three times.
Grouped gives A A A B B B C C C. Interleaved gives A B C A B C A B C. Grouped is what you want for per-record rows; interleaved is what you want when the list is a rotation or a schedule.
Yes. Appending the copy number turns "widget" into "widget 1", "widget 2" and "widget 3", which keeps the rows unique when a system requires it.
Only if you leave them in. By default blank lines are dropped before the repeat, since repeating a gap three times is almost never intended.
