The Character Counter answers one question: will this fit? It counts characters with and without spaces as you type and tracks them against the limit you have to hit, with presets for Google titles, meta descriptions, SMS, X, Instagram and YouTube.
A character counter answers one question: will this fit? Paste your text and the tool reports characters with spaces, characters without spaces, letters, digits, words and lines, all updating on every keystroke.
Pick a limit from the list and a bar tracks how much of it you have used. It turns amber as you approach the cap and red once you pass it, with the exact number of characters left shown underneath. The presets cover the limits people actually run into: 60 for a Google title tag, 160 for a meta description, 160 for a single SMS segment, 280 for a post on X, 2,200 for an Instagram caption and 5,000 for a YouTube description. You can also type your own number for a form field or a database column.
Counting works on characters as a reader sees them, so an emoji or an accented letter counts as one rather than as the two code units it occupies in memory.

One click puts the trimmed text on your clipboard, ready to paste back.
Characters with spaces counts every keystroke including the space bar, which is what social networks and SMS gateways measure. Characters without spaces counts only the visible marks, which is what some academic and print briefs ask for. The tool shows both at once.
A standard post is limited to 280 characters. Links are a special case: X shortens every URL and counts it as 23 characters regardless of how long the real address is.
As one character each, the way you would count them by eye. Be aware that some platforms count certain emoji as two because of how they are stored, so treat a post that lands exactly on the limit as a warning sign.
No. The counter is JavaScript running in your own browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, logged or stored anywhere.
