A projection from the assumptions you enter, not a forecast. Real markets do not deliver a steady annual return, and past performance is no guide to the future.

Quick Tool Overview

The Investment Calculator projects the future value of a portfolio from a starting amount, a regular contribution, an expected return and a time horizon, separating your own contributions from the growth on top. Two adjustments make the projection honest: inflation and fees.

About the Investment Calculator

Enter a starting amount, a regular contribution, an expected annual return and a time horizon to project the future value of an investment. The chart separates your own contributions from the growth on top of them.

Two adjustments make the projection honest. The first is inflation: a portfolio worth a large nominal sum in thirty years buys considerably less than the same sum today, so the calculator shows the inflation-adjusted value alongside the headline figure. The second is fees. An annual charge of one percent sounds trivial, but compounded across decades it commonly consumes a fifth or more of the final balance, and the fee field makes that cost visible rather than theoretical.

Key features of the Investment Calculator

Inflation-adjusted value

A large nominal sum in thirty years buys considerably less than the same sum today, so the real value is shown alongside the headline.

Fee impact made visible

An annual charge of one percent sounds trivial, but compounded across decades it commonly consumes a fifth or more of the final balance.

Contributions versus growth

The chart separates what you put in from what the market added, which is the number worth watching.

Regular contributions

Model ongoing paying-in rather than assuming a single lump sum.

Adjust and re-run instantly

Change the return or the horizon and the whole projection updates immediately.

Frequently asked questions

Long-run global equity returns have averaged somewhere around 7 to 10 percent nominal before fees, but any individual period can be far higher or lower. Model a pessimistic case as well as an optimistic one rather than relying on a single number.
