Nominal GDP

Price level implied by the deflator
Nominal GDP rises with inflation, so an economy can post strong nominal growth while producing no more than it did before. Real GDP strips price changes out and is the series economists actually compare. GDP per capita is the figure that says something about living standards.
The GDP Calculator computes gross domestic product by the expenditure or income approach, converts nominal to real GDP with a price deflator, and derives growth rate and GDP per capita from the real series.
Calculate gross domestic product by either standard approach — expenditure, using C + I + G + (X − M), or income, summing wages, rents, interest and profits — and convert a nominal figure into real GDP using a price deflator.
That conversion is the one that changes conclusions. Nominal GDP rises with inflation, so an economy can post impressive nominal growth while producing no more than it did the year before. Real GDP strips price changes out and is what economists actually compare across time. GDP per capita divides by population, which is the figure that says something about living standards, and growth rates are calculated from the real series rather than the nominal one.
Expenditure (C + I + G + NX) and income, which should reconcile to the same total.
The deflator strips price changes out, which is what turns a headline figure into a meaningful one.
Each part as a percentage of the total, which is how economies are actually compared.
Divided by population, since total GDP mostly reflects population size.
Calculated on real rather than nominal GDP, which is the only version that means anything.
Expenditure or income — both should reach the same total.
Consumption, investment, government spending and net exports, or the income equivalents.
Converts nominal GDP into real GDP at base-year prices.
GDP per capita, real growth rate, and each component as a share of the total.
The expenditure approach is GDP = C + I + G + (X − M): consumption, investment, government spending, plus exports minus imports.
Nominal GDP uses current prices, so it rises with inflation. Real GDP is adjusted to base-year prices, so it reflects actual changes in output rather than price changes.
The ratio of nominal to real GDP, multiplied by 100. It measures the price level across the whole economy, unlike CPI which tracks a fixed consumer basket.
Because total GDP mostly reflects population size. Dividing by population gives a figure that says something about average output per person, and so about living standards.
