Engagement rate
—
The Facebook Engagement Rate Calculator measures reactions, comments and shares against reach, impressions or page followers, with a benchmark note that changes with the base you choose because the typical ranges are nothing alike.
Facebook engagement is normally measured against reach rather than followers, because organic reach on a Page is only ever a fraction of the people who follow it. Judging a post against your whole follower count instead measures the algorithm as much as the content.
Enter reactions, comments and shares, then choose whether to measure against reach, impressions or followers — the calculator shows the rate along with each interaction type as a share of the base, and a benchmark note that changes depending on which base you picked, because the typical ranges are nothing alike.

Both count towards total engagement.
Reach is the usual choice; impressions and page followers are also supported.
With a benchmark note matched to the base you picked.
Engagement rate = (Reactions + Comments + Shares) ÷ Reach × 100. 402 interactions on a post that reached 12,000 people is an engagement rate of about 3.35%.
Reach is the fairer measure of the content itself, since it only counts people who actually saw the post. Engagement against followers measures content and distribution together, and falls as a Page grows because organic reach rarely keeps pace.
The two bases produce completely different numbers. Measured against reach, a few percent is a respectable result; measured against total followers, published benchmarks for Pages commonly sit well below 1%, and lower still for large Pages.
Facebook reports them separately as post clicks. This calculator counts reactions, comments and shares — the public interactions most often compared between posts — so clicks stay out of the figure.
