About the Commission Calculator

Enter your sales figure and commission rate to get the commission earned and your total pay including base salary. Tiered structures are supported, so each band is applied to the portion of sales that falls inside it rather than the whole amount.

That detail is the one people get wrong. In a tiered plan, hitting the next band does not reprice everything you have already sold: the higher rate applies only to the sales above the threshold, exactly like income tax brackets. The calculator therefore reports the effective rate across all sales alongside the marginal rate on the next dollar. It also handles splits, which matter in real estate, where a stated commission is divided between brokerages and then again with the agent.

Key features of the Commission Calculator

Tiers applied correctly

Crossing a threshold does not reprice earlier sales — the higher rate applies only above it, exactly like tax brackets.

Effective rate reported

Always lower than the top band, which is the figure that describes what you actually earn.

Splits supported

Brokerage and team splits, which in real estate reduce a headline percentage to well under half.

Base salary included

Total compensation rather than commission in isolation.

Marginal rate shown

What the next dollar of sales actually earns you, which is what drives behaviour near a threshold.

Frequently asked questions

Each rate applies only to the sales within its band, like tax brackets. Crossing a threshold does not reprice earlier sales, so the effective rate across everything is always lower than the top band rate.
