The Missing Text Finder compares two lists in both directions at once: what is in the first but not the second, what is in the second but not the first, and what they share. A list can be missing entries and have extra ones simultaneously, so one direction is never enough.
Two lists that should match rarely do, and the useful question is which entries are missing from which side. An export that should have every customer but has 4,180 rows instead of 4,200. A translation file missing twenty keys. A checklist where you need to know what has not been done yet.
This does a set difference in both directions at once: entries in the first list that are not in the second, and entries in the second that are not in the first. Both results are shown separately with counts, along with the entries the two lists share. Comparison can ignore case and whitespace, and can be restricted to one column of a delimited file so two exports with different columns can still be matched on their IDs.
Missing and extra entries are separate findings, and seeing only one of them hides half the problem.
Compare two exports on their ID field even when their other columns are formatted differently.
Repeats are collapsed for the comparison but counted separately, so nothing is silently swallowed.
A trailing space no longer makes two identical entries look like a mismatch.
Hash-set comparison rather than nested loops, so tens of thousands of rows compare instantly.
The list you expect to be complete.
The list you are checking against it.
Ignore case and whitespace, or compare only one column of a delimited row.
Missing from the second, missing from the first, and present in both are each listed with counts.
Yes, and that matters. A list can be missing entries and have extra ones at the same time, and seeing only one direction would hide half the problem.
Yes. Set the delimiter and column number and only that field is compared, which lets you match two exports whose other columns are formatted differently.
They are collapsed for the comparison, so an entry appearing twice in the first list counts as present once. The duplicate counts are reported separately so you know they were there.
Tens of thousands of lines comfortably. The comparison uses hash sets rather than nested loops, so it stays fast as the lists grow rather than slowing down quadratically.
